Sweden Day 9 – Exploring Stockholm_ Museums, Skills, and New Experiences

Our Swedish Diary: Museums, Markets, and Making Wallets

We started our morning with a quick breakfast before our teachers, Kerstin, Malin, and Ellinor, arrived to pick us up. Once we were in the car, we blasted some music to get the energy going and headed to Enköping Central Station. From there, we caught a train to Stockholm, excited for a full day of exploring.

Stockholm felt so different from the quiet, peaceful atmosphere of Enköping. While Enköping has its own charm, the city was buzzing with a completely different kind of energy.

Our first stop was the Nordic Museum. We took a bus there and spent the morning exploring fascinating exhibits, ancient artefacts, and learning about the Viking era. One of the most interesting things we discovered was how seeds are preserved in frozen conditions for future generations. It was incredible to learn how these seed vaults help protect biodiversity and ensure that plant species can be restored if needed. The museum itself was impressive, but what stood out even more was the warmth, care, and hospitality shown to us throughout our visit.

After the museum, we kept lunch simple and headed to McDonald’s for burgers, fries, milkshakes, and Coke.

The highlight of the afternoon was visiting the Vocational Competition, where Kerstin had been invited as a speaker. The event was massive, showcasing more than 50 different vocational fields, including robotics, welding, culinary arts, and many more. We had an amazing time trying out different activities. One of the most memorable experiences was making our own leather wallets. We stitched them by hand, step by step, and were so proud of how they turned out. We even had some time to get our hair styled, while Ellinor and Malin treated themselves to a manicure.

After Kerstin’s speech, we made our way back to the station for our train journey to Enköping. Most of us were so tired from the day’s adventures that we slept through most of the ride. Once we arrived, we hopped back into the cars, turned the music up once again, and drove back to Bredsand.

We ended the day with a delicious dinner together before calling it a night. Tired but happy, we went to bed with wonderful memories of a day filled with history, creativity, learning, and fun.
